• The 2005 Pokémon World Championships took place in San Diego for the first, of eventually, three times, and was the second Worlds officially hosted by Pokémon.

• Approximately 434 total players attended Worlds this year.

• A Last Chance Qualifier (the Grinder) was held on Friday, before the main event. The Top 8 players from the Grinder earned a spot to compete in the World Championships the next day. (252 players competed in the Grinder)
