2009 World Championships

Diamond & Pearl - DP: Rising Rivals

Hilton San Diego Bayfront

1 Park Blvd, San Diego CA

• The 2009 Pokémon World Championships took place in San Diego for a second time. It was a two-day event, 3 counting the LCQ. The main event consisted of 7 Rounds, followed by a single-elimination Top Cut of 32 players on Sunday.

• Like the Worlds before it, this year included a Last Chance Qualifier. LCQ competitors played 6 rounds on Friday, of which only players with an undefeated record of 6-0 earned a Last Chance Invite.

• This Worlds unknowingly utilised the same set rotation of Diamond & Pearl-on, as the 2010 World Championships the following year.

• For the first time, (and only time to this day), Worlds was held from Thursday through Saturday, unlike the traditional Friday through Sunday schedule.
