2017 World Championships

XY: Primal Clash - SM: Burning Shadows

Anaheim Convention Center

800 W Katella Avenue

• The 2017 Pokémon World Championships returned to California for a second year in a row, making California a six-time host of the World Championships. It was a three-day event, where anyone who met the Championship Point threshold was invited to play in Day 1 on Friday. Of which consisted of 6 Rounds, with anyone having won 4 Rounds, or a minimum record or 3-0-3, moving on to Day 2. 206 Master division players competed in Day 1, with 54 having moved on to Day 2.

• Day 2 (Saturday) consisted of the above players that made it through a rough Day 1, as well as the Top X players from throughout the season, seperated by region, found below. (130 Masters competed in Day 2.) Day 2 was 8 Rounds long, but resulting in a Top 8 Cut. All Top 8 and Top 4 matches were played out that night, saving each division's Grand Finals for Sunday.

• This event featured a pop-up Pokémon Center and was the first World Championships that held an event refered to as an "Open." The open that took place on this weekend was refered to as the Anaheim Open, which played out during Day 2 of World's main event. The Open awarded top finishing players with Championship Points towards the 2018 season.
